We are also aware this is a stressful and emotional time for you as a family. If it would be of assistance to you, we can take care of the details in planning the celebration for you.

2. Please consider which form of Funeral Service you wish celebrated:
[ ] We wish to celebrate a Scripture Service in [ ] Chruch [ ] in the Funeral Home.
This form of the funeral service may be appropriate for the Catholic or family who, for whatever reason, has not been active in the faith or in attending Mass.
*When a Scripture Service takes place in the church, much of the planning takes place
in the same manner it would with a funeral Mass with a member of the parish staff.
** When a Scripture Service takes place in the funeral home, the priest or deacon
will complete the funeral planning appropriate to the funeral home, offering the chance
for Words of Remembrance to be given by a family member or friend.
[ ] We wish to celebrate a Funeral Mass with the celebration of the Eucharist.
This is the traditional form of funeral service and appropriate for the Catholic family who is
active in their faith and the attendance of Mass.
3. Selecting the Readings from Sacred Scripture
Three passages of Sacred Scripture are always part of the Rite of Christian Burial at church, whether a Scripture Service or Mass: one from each the Old and New Testaments, and the Gospels. Please take a moment to read the passages provided as part of this website to make your selections.
Consideration needs to be given as to who will proclaim the Scripture. It is strongly recommended this be done by an individual who is trained in this ministry. Because funerals are a difficult time for public speaking, our parish is ready to provide trained ministers of the Word. If you wish family or friends to proclaim the readings, please indicate their name(s) below.

4. Placing of the Funeral Pall -&- Presentation of the Gifts of Bread and Wine at a Funeral Mass
1. During a Funeral Mass with the casket present, the Pall is draped over the casket.

5. Words of Remembrance
The Rite of Funerals provides an opportunity for one (1) individual to speaks on behalf of the family. The time for the Words of Remembrance is 3-5 minutes in length. These “Words of Remembrance” should focus especially on the person’s living the faith. Words of Remebrance are optional and not a required part of the Funeral Mass.
Final Words of Remembrance need to be emailed to the presider prior to the day of the funeral Mass. This allows the presider to review the content, and also of changes as to "if" or "who" will be offering them. If not received, it is assumed they will not be offered and no one will be invited forward so as not to embarrase anyone. The Words of Remembrance should be emailed to [email protected].

Please remember that music for a Funeral Mass/Scripture Service must be religious in nature (secular/popular music is not used during a Funeral Mass/Scripture Service).
